The person behind the work
VIEW OUR CREATIVE TALENT

DEREK RYAN
I'm a London-based Creative Director, Writer, Editor and Graphic Designer with a career built on one simple idea: that the best work happens when one person holds the vision together from start to finish.
My CV has taken a few unexpected turns. I wouldn't change one of them.
I started in broadcasting as a Motion Graphics Designer. Building animated images from scratch, frame by frame, pixel by pixel, gave me a foundation in visual storytelling on which everything else was built.
From there I became a TV Promo Producer, a role that teaches end-to-end production. From script to screen, you own every stage. Distilling the complex into the compelling, learning economy of language, doing a lot with little.
Then I did something few in the industry have done: I went on stage. I spent years as a stand-up comedian, performing my own material in clubs and venues across Europe, the Middle East and the US. Learning to read a room, land a line, hold an audience's attention with nothing but words and timing. It was the most demanding creative training I've had, and the most valuable.
Returning to media as a director, I found I retained what makes an audience feel something, whether that's laughter, curiosity or genuine emotion. How to draw authentic performances from on-screen talent. How to unite cast and crew in a fun & focussed environment. I've helmed countless shoots, big & small.
Along the way I learned how to edit. Shaping the narrative for film, TV pilots and commercials from first assembly through to final delivery. Knowing every frame matters.
What all of these chapters share is a restless curiosity about how things are made and how they land. I've worked across the entire creative and production process, from conceiving ideas, writing scripts, directing talent, editing and delivering the final product in any format. I work across commercials, film, TV promos, pilots, movie trailers, comedy sketches, corporate events and podcasts for multiple brands and companies.
All of it informs the way I write, collaborate with talent, think about tone. Knowing if a project calls for comedy, drama, or a blend of both.
Whatever the project, the motivation stays the same: that moment when an idea moves from words on a page to something an audience actually feels. Getting to that moment, reliably and repeatedly, is what I do.
If you'd like to make something worth remembering, and need help at any point in the process, I'd love to hear from you.
